OBIT: The Hawk Eye, Burlington, IA, Sep. 4, 2005: Mary Elizabeth Stevens, 77, of Winfield died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant. Born Dec. 24, 1927, near Mount Union, she was the daughter of Rudolph and Nellie Kuhlman Eckey. On Sept. 4, 1945, she married Robert H. Stevens in Mount Pleasant.
Mrs. Stevens worked for Ross Electronics in Washington, then worked at MHI in Mount Pleasant. She was a CNA for Sunrise Terrace Care Center and later offered private home care for several years.
She was a 1945 graduate of the Winfield High School. She was a 50-year member of the Methodist Church, belonging to Canaan Methodist Church before it closed and then was a member of Winfield United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and sang in the church choir for many years. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star, Past Matrons, Lions Club, Pinocle Card Club and was a former Cub Scout leader.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Beth Briggs of Winfield; four sons, David Stevens of New London, Paul Stevens of Pensacola, Fla., Tom Stevens of Denver, Iowa, and Mark Stevens of New Market, Ala.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great\endash grandchildren; and one sister, Wilhelmina Terry of Cheshire, Conn. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, one granddaughter and one sister.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Monday at Honts Funeral home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Stevens will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kingston United Methodist Church, with Hoyt Griffin and Mary Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
